Position Overview:

We are looking for a well-rounded, creative, and strategic finance and accounting leader to help build out a sustainable and adaptable finance function to support Clarkson’s future growth. This is a unique opportunity to join the leadership team and help build a purpose-driven company whose primary mission is to impact society. Clarkson is based in Malibu, California and we offer a competitive compensation and benefits package and flexible / hybrid work environment—because we’re focused on meeting the talent where they are, and this is an incredibly important position we are looking to fill. Ultimately, we are looking for an experienced leader with a strong understanding of what it takes to build out a finance organization the right way—from strategically structuring chart of accounts, to building out streamlined processes for sustainable financial insights, to working closely with the founding partners on making financial decisions for the firm.

Scope and Responsibilities, not limited to:

  • Structure, build out, and standardize a chart of accounts to derive a foundation for building a financial function as the business scales.
  • Ability to understand main business drivers to work with leadership to derive strategy in laying a finance foundation. You’ll be part of a dynamic, rapidly-growing organization, and building a core function to enhance its operating engine. We won’t be able to do everything at once, so being able to prioritize and make strategic trade-off decisions to optimize business growth will be imperative for Clarkson’s success.
  • Develop a billing system that can sustainably keep records and build processes to support the tracking and analyzing of costs.
  • Build base policy and procedures across the landscape of revenue and expenses, income categorization, cost tracking, expense reimbursement, etc.
  • Update income and expense data storage to enable the eventual real-time insights that will drive leadership business decisions.
  • Coordinate and manage the full end-to-end spectrum of Finance and Accounting across Clarkson, which will grow over time.
  • Accounting: General Ledger, Time and Billing, Accounts Payable and Trust accounting.
  • Cash Management: Cash flow, banking transactions, and reconciliations.
  • Preparation of Financial Statements.
  • 401(k) Administration, Payroll processing, Budgeting and Year End processes.

Skill Set & Experience:

  • 7+ Years in Finance / Accounting.
  • Experience building and scaling a Finance & Accounting organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business-related field (CPA or CMA Preferred).
  • Proficiency with MS Excel and Quickbooks.
  • Experience with Time and Billing software.
  • Attention to detail with a high level of efficiency and accuracy.
  • Strong ability to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, nuanced environment. We don’t require experience in law—we’re just looking for someone who loves to learn.
  • Proven critical thinking and decisive strategic decision making.
